Allowed mesoscopic point group symmetries in domain average engineering of perovskite ferroelectric crystals

چکیده
In multivariant systems, several energetically degenerate low temperature domain states can be produced at the structural phase transition. Coexistence of these domain states can produce mesoscopic structures that possess symmetries distinct from the microscopic single domain crystal symmetry. Such engineered domain structures in certain ferroelectric materials have been proven to give superior piezoelectric properties and extremely soft shear moduli. The objective of this article is to consider the variety of symmetries that can be produced through domain average engineering in proper ferroelectric systems arising from the cubic Pm 3̄m symmetry perovskite structure. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1611634#

متن کاملEffective symmetry and physical properties of twinned perovskite ferroelectric single crystals
The effective symmetry and material properties of twinned ferroelectric crystals with perovskite structure were analyzed. The twins or twinbands studied here were formed during ferroelectric phase transitions, which resulted in one of the following symmetry changes: m3m → 3m, m3m → 4mm, and m3m → mm2. It was found that the volume ratios of the two domains in a twin structure were not always equ...

Adv. Mater. 2009, 21, 817–823 2009 WILEY-VCH Verlag Gm Multiferroic BiFeO3 has attracted great interest due to its promising application tomagnetoelectric devices. In addition, the high remanent polarization and piezoelectric response of BiFeO3 thin films, which are comparable to those of conventional Ti-rich lead zirconia titanate, suggested BiFeO3 as a strong candidate for lead-free nonvolati...
متن کاملGiant photovoltaic effect of ferroelectric domain walls in perovskite single crystals
The photovoltaic (PV) effect in polar materials offers great potential for light-energy conversion that generates a voltage beyond the bandgap limit of present semiconductor-based solar cells. Ferroelectrics have received renewed attention because of the ability to deliver a high voltage in the presence of ferroelastic domain walls (DWs). In recent years, there has been considerable debate over...
